WORKING WITH STUDIES OF MOTION, RESISTANCE, FLOW, STILLNESS AND REFLECTION IN THE STUDIO AND IN NATURAL LANDSCAPE, based upon CREATED THIS SITE SPECIFIC WORK TO EXPLORE THE CURIOUS VOLUME BETWEEN BINARY IDEAS: CONCEPTS HELD AS OPPOSITES BUT WHICH BLUR FROM ONE TO THE OTHER WITH NO OBSERVABLE MIDPOINT.

DISCOVER
Meetings and site visits with the board, creative and operational teams in NYC to understand the vision of the Equinox brand, its flagship NYC hotel and how BEST to represent that within a large sculpture.

DEFINE
With Equinox positioned globally as a gym brand associated with activity and a hotel essentially a rest proposition, we asked “what does it mean to come to rest?”.
Studying the way parachute silk fell to earth we sought to capture the moment between motion and rest.

DEVELOP
The forms generated by the silk guided the sculpting process. the sculpture was refined at 1:5 scale until ready for production in mirror polished aluminium.
